THOUGHT: iMac G5

Look ma, my new uhm... display? Uhm, is that a Video iPod? Uhm, I see a keyboard (and a mouse), but where's the computer? Wow! This is really ecstatic! They practically hid everything - and not to think its a G5! Can't help myself but to scream -- How they'd do that?! Is Apple getting another Best Product Design this year? Haven't seen the MacWorld keynote yet, but I certainly gonna miss Steve (Jobs) on this one.

UPDATE: The iMac G5 find its way to the show window of SM Megamall. You could view it here.

THOUGHT: Switching To Panther

Call me skeptic or simply too contented with my ever trusted Jaguar (OS X 10.2.x), but I've just recently upgraded to Panther (OS X 10.3.5) -- a few months before the release of upcoming Tiger (OS X 10.4).

Why the sudden switch? I've been modifying my Jaguar a bit (in the past) just to make it look like Panther. Beyond the looks, Panther have several things that are way beyond just modifying the Jaguar.

1. More Stable SMB Connectivity
The reason why I refuse to upgrade to the Panther (before) is the connectivity with Windows network -- which is very important in connecting with our office network servers. I don't want to shell out cash to buy third party utilities (like DAVE) just to address the flaw of the upgrade. Not until OS X 10.3.5 came along. ;-)

2. Exposé
Works like a charm! Very helpful especially when I need to copy or move files from one location to another location or application.

3. Added Security
The need to prompt for your password everytime the Mac wakes up from a sleep works best especially if you're using a notebook computer (iBooks and PowerBooks).

4. File Vault
More security. I haven't use this feature yet, but I would love to have the ability to encrypt my precious files when needed. Again, more protection than before.

5. Finder Enhancement
Its now easier to locate and navigate using the new Finder (not even to mention how faster it is to search for a file).

I can live without the rest of what Panther has to offer, but the five features that made me switch are compelling enough to have the black feline as my current OS. Until the Tiger release, I hope to enjoy everything what Panther has to offer. ;-)

MOVIE: Super Size Me

Last weekend, I treated myself to a hillarious movie full of wit and disgust over eating fastfood. This is a documentary story about a guy named Morgan Spurlock and his month-long adventure of eating nothing but McDonald's food. He has to try everything on the menu at least once, and he must super-size his order if asked.

One scene that freaked me out is when Morgan showed the children flash cards and asked them whether they know this man -- the kids didn't have a clue. Ironically, they know Ronald McDonald more than they know Him.

THOUGHT: Initial D

I'm currently raving about this anime series (that started way back 1998) called Initial D. Its about a young driver named Takumi Fujiwara (the son of a former race driver and owner of the Fujiwara Tofu Shop). He is tasked to deliver tofu every morning to a hotel on top of Mt. Akina. The story revolves around Takumi (and his friends) and how he improved his driving skills in every battle that he gets into. Its really a fun series to watch. Thanks to Jorweeck for introducing me into the Initial D universe. :-)

P.S. Looking forward to finish the entire Initial D stages.

MOVIE: Dodgeball (A True Underdog Story)

Again, I went to the Glorietta Cinemas for my regular dose of movie entertainment last Saturday. I was so excited to watch Dodgeball. I thought it was hillariously funny (basing from the movie trailer). It didn't successfully tickle me to even laugh. The jokes are so lame that there's no new stuff that you haven't seen before. Everything is so predictable. Man, this movie sucks! :-P

APPS: Quicksilver for OS X Panther

I'll describe this app in one word - Zen. The description perfectly fits the tagline "efficiency above all things". This app will simply let you launch programs, view a document, everything you want to lookup in a few keystrokes. Quicksilver allows you to find what you need quickly and easily, while keeping your hands on the keyboard. You can easily customise Quicksilver until it does exactly what you want it to. The modular structure also means that the application will never be bloated: You only load the modules that you find useful.

APPS: DeskCover for OS X

Another app that I recently discovered is DeskCover by DanicSoft. Its a cool app that inserts a translucent film to your desktop wallpaper inorder for you to find your file or folder from a cluttered and complicated display. This sheet automatically resizes itself upon launch to fit all desktop icons within the sheet. The color and translucency of the sheet are modifiable from the preferences window, which can be accessed through a menu bar item.

You can download DeskCover here.
