MOVIE: Batman Begins

"It's not who I am underneath... But what I do that defines me". This will be the lines that will bug you for years to come. Last night, I was able to catch a screening of Batman Begins over at Market! Market! Got the best seat in the house (L16) while sipping to a large Grape-flavored Muscle Beach Lemonade. Anyways, this is probably the best Batman film ever! It even exceeds my expectations for the movie. Why? ...let's run through it.

Chris Nolan's version is far better than geeky and corny version of Tim Burton's. This time it's more real, more human. The passion and the reason behind the man who wanted to hide behind the mask. His fears, his principles are better told in this movie. The reason why he should live a double life will be revealed. Action and suspense sequences were better placed (where they really should be). This version is nothing like Burton's gloomy, predictive gothic world of Gotham (not to mention that cheesy muscle costume of Michael Keaton). Ok, so it stars Christian Bale (cheesy actor of Equilibrium that could finish off more than a dozen assassins inside a dark room). In this movie, he also finished off about a dozen villains with his ninjitsu moves (take note: no firearms). The difference is in the story line and the director. Its a pity that he started out with a cheesy movie (what the heck, every budding actors had that experience).

How 'bout the BatMobile? This is the most realistic that it could ever get! Remember the BatMobile of Burton? The one that could make a 90 degrees turn with a grappling hook? That's slick but rubbish. This one is more off-road and more invincible. So, do the chicks dig the car? Can't answer that, but I certainly would love to have one of those for myself.

This version is the nearest to a Frank Miller version that you could ever get. It's a comic book fan's dream came true (or close). If I'm not mistaken, this is the first of its kind offering that DC Comics is supporting (due to its intro logo during the beginning titles of the movie - just like Marvel).

To sum it all, would I say you should watch this movie? No need to talk, just go grab a ticket. Heck, I would even get myself a DVD copy when it comes out. This one is a keeper.
