MOVIE: Fantastic Four

Coming straight from the COMDDAP Show from Davao, I was able to catch the last full show at Market! Market! last night. Fantastic 4 is your typical Marvel superhero flick (if you're a fan of SpiderMan, you'll love it). The entire movie is just a break from the dark comic flick that we've been getting (Batman Begins included). Many have been saying that this version has not been faithful to the original Marvel story. Although I'm a big Fantastic 4 fan, I couldn't care less.
The story revolves around the origin of the Fan 4. Introducing Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, who can elongate his body; Susan Storm/Invisible Woman (single-hood days), who not only can become invisible at will but can render other objects invisible; Johnny Storm/Human Torch, who can shoot fire from his finger tips and bend flame; and Ben Grimm/The Thing, a hideously misshapen monster with superhuman strength, together battle the evil Victor Van Doom/Doctor Doom. During the movie, there are parts that does have cheesy lines and there are times that its hilariously funny. The special effects are sometimes too CG (especially the elongation of Richards' arm to open the locked door), but the rest are just awesome.
Although its a bit cheesy, all I can say is - its fantastically entertaining!

MOVIE: Batman Begins

"It's not who I am underneath... But what I do that defines me". This will be the lines that will bug you for years to come. Last night, I was able to catch a screening of Batman Begins over at Market! Market! Got the best seat in the house (L16) while sipping to a large Grape-flavored Muscle Beach Lemonade. Anyways, this is probably the best Batman film ever! It even exceeds my expectations for the movie. Why? ...let's run through it.
Chris Nolan's version is far better than geeky and corny version of Tim Burton's. This time it's more real, more human. The passion and the reason behind the man who wanted to hide behind the mask. His fears, his principles are better told in this movie. The reason why he should live a double life will be revealed. Action and suspense sequences were better placed (where they really should be). This version is nothing like Burton's gloomy, predictive gothic world of Gotham (not to mention that cheesy muscle costume of Michael Keaton). Ok, so it stars Christian Bale (cheesy actor of Equilibrium that could finish off more than a dozen assassins inside a dark room). In this movie, he also finished off about a dozen villains with his ninjitsu moves (take note: no firearms). The difference is in the story line and the director. Its a pity that he started out with a cheesy movie (what the heck, every budding actors had that experience).
How 'bout the BatMobile? This is the most realistic that it could ever get! Remember the BatMobile of Burton? The one that could make a 90 degrees turn with a grappling hook? That's slick but rubbish. This one is more off-road and more invincible. So, do the chicks dig the car? Can't answer that, but I certainly would love to have one of those for myself.
This version is the nearest to a Frank Miller version that you could ever get. It's a comic book fan's dream came true (or close). If I'm not mistaken, this is the first of its kind offering that DC Comics is supporting (due to its intro logo during the beginning titles of the movie - just like Marvel).
To sum it all, would I say you should watch this movie? No need to talk, just go grab a ticket. Heck, I would even get myself a DVD copy when it comes out. This one is a keeper.

MOVIE: Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Honey, I'm home! Last Thursday, I got the chance to watch this movie in a full-packed kinda-jologs cinema of Market! Market! Mr. & Mrs. Smith is a fun-filled action comedy movie about two couples who have a spy alter-ego that they both kept as secret from each other (until they were both hired to kill one another). In the end, it became somewhat like "you and me against the world, honey!".
This is a super fun movie that is best suited for couples. Instant relatedness for those who are in their relationship (with the amplification of heavy and brutal action sequences). A must-see date movie.
Mr. & Mrs. Smith is got to be the best tandem of on-cameo partners. Imagine having Lara Croft and Achilles in one action movie (actually it did - towards the end with a John Woo action sequence). They're both sexy, slick and smooth. I believe Brad Pitt looks better (on-screen) with Angelina Jolie (than Jennifer Aniston). Ha! ^o^

MOVIE: House Of Wax

After a long day, I went to see a movie last night at Glorietta. From a pouring heavy rain, watching a movie is probably the next best thing having aside from a nice and warm chicken soup. And guess what I chose to watch - House Of Wax.
Its a Paris Hilton movie alright. Its a gross and slutty film but its the best Paris Hilton movie ever! Wait, was there ever a Paris Hilton movie before this one? Very well, the movie is all about a group of young horny teenagers (on their way to a college football game) unluckily falls prey to a pair of murderous brothers in an abandoned small town. They discover that the brothers have expanded upon the area's main attraction - the House of Wax - and created an entire town filled with the wax-coated corpses of unlucky visitors. Now the group must find a way out before they too become permanent exhibits in the House of Wax.
True to the tradition of teenage horror flicks which dates back to Jason's Friday The 13th and Freddy's Nightmare on Elm Street, House of Wax is another classic flick with a touch of silliness and horror background tunes (not forgetting the villain armed with surgical scissors and twin bolo knives). Overall, its one scary gross hilariously stupid film for a nice and silly entertainment. Relax, your life is still better than Elisha's - atleast you still have all your 10 fingers complete. ^_^

MOVIE: After The Sunset

Everyone is raving about how wonderful the movie The Incredibles is, so I won't do a review about that anymore. For the fact that I haven't watched that movie yet (coz Aileen insisted that I need to go watch it with her). ^_^
Anyways, there's this movie that I just found out that its gonna be shown this week - After The Sunset. I happen to droppedby SM City yesterday and watched the movie. Aside from being James Bond like, the movie is also some sort of a feel good fun movie. Its about a master thief (Pierce Brosnan) retiring to an island paradise after a major stealing operation. His lifelong nemesis, a crafty FBI agent (Woody Harrelson), washes ashore to ensure he's making good on his promise. The FBI agent baited him to do the last score of his life - the last among three Napoleon diamonds that he has previously stolen. Its fun and exciting to watch except for the movie's climactic scene. Its no James Bond movie after all. I missed Brosnan playing another James Bond role.

MOVIE: Bourne Supremacy

Looking for high tech espionage flick with an adrenaline pump? Well, this is the movie to watch. Actually I watched this movie before RE2, but for some reason I wasn't able to blog it right away. Anyways, the movie is about the continuation of The Bourne Identity, by which focuses on the life of Jason Bourne (Matt Damon). The stakes are now even higher for the agent as he coolly maneuvers through the dangerous waters of international espionage - replete with CIA plots, turncoat agents and ever-shifting covert alliances - all the while hoping to find the truth behind his haunted memories and answers to his own fragmented past.
This movie showcases lots of cool stuffs and gadgets -- an every geek's dream flick! :-)

MOVIE: Resident Evil Apocalypse

This is really better than the first! ;-) The story picks up where the end of the first movie left off when Alice (Jovovich), finds herself stranded in the ruins of Raccoon City folowing a virus outbreak which has turned the city's inhabitants into bloodthirsty zombies. Searching for a way to contain the virus, Alice also teams up with other survivors, who include Jill Valentine (Guillory), who finds herself being hunted down by a massive monster called Nemesis (Mabius) with ties to Alice. I intentionally watched this movie because of Jill Valentine! ;-) Overall, its a good action flick! :-)

P.S. Can't wait for the third iteration though.
